Summary
Controller firmware can be updated directly through OnCAFE when a firmware update is available for an onboarded controller.
This article explains how to update controller firmware from the OnCAFE web platform.
Prerequisites
Before updating controller firmware through OnCAFE:
- Confirm that the controller is online and communicating with OnCAFE.
- Confirm that the controller shows Firmware update available.
- Confirm that the site can tolerate temporary controller downtime during the update.
- Do not power off, disconnect, or reboot the controller while the update is in progress.
NOTE: Firmware updates must be performed during an approved maintenance window
when possible.
Updating Controller Firmware Through OnCAFE
To update controller firmware:
- Log in to OnCAFE as a user with administrative privileges.
- Select Devices > Controllers.

Locate the controller that requires the firmware update.
NOTE: Controllers with available updates may display one or more update
indicators, such as: Cloud connector update available
Firmware update available - Select the controller to open the controller configuration page.
- Review the controller details and confirm the correct controller is selected.
- Validate the following information before proceeding:
- Controller name
- Location
- Model / SKU
- MAC address
- Local IP address
- Current controller status
- In the Device Firmware section, confirm that the firmware update notice is displayed and select Update now.

Review the Update Device Firmware confirmation message.
The confirmation message warns that the device will remain offline until the firmware update is complete.

Select Update now to begin the firmware update.
NOTE: The controller will temporarily go offline while the firmware update is applied. Firmware updates should NOT be interrupted once started. - After the update completes, return to Devices > Controllers.
- Confirm the controller comes back online.
- Open the controller again and verify that the firmware update message is no longer displayed.
