Applies to: NOP-IC2
Summary
This article explains the purpose and configuration of hardware jumpers on the NOP-IC2 controller. These jumpers are used for power source selection, RS-485 bus termination, and reader voltage configuration.
Prerequisites
Before changing jumper settings:
- Power down the controller.
- Confirm the controller model and installation requirements.
- Confirm the power source being used.
- Confirm RS-485 devices are wired in a daisy-chain configuration.
- Confirm the controller is located at the end of the RS-485 bus.
- Confirm the required reader voltage.
NOP-IC2 Jumper Reference
| Jumper | Label | Function |
| J1 | PoE VIN | Selects power source: DC input (default) or PoE+ (not utilized with NOP-N-IC2-1Mil) |
| J2 | COM1 Termination | Enables RS-485 termination for Serial Port 1 (COM1) |
| J3 | COM2 Termination | Enables RS-485 termination for Serial Port 2 (COM2) |
| J4 | RDR2 Termination | RS-485 termination for Reader Port 2 |
| J5 | VIN 12V | Selects reader voltage source (regulated 12V or passthrough from VIN) |
| J6 | RDR1 Termination | RS-485 termination for Reader Port 1 |
Configuring NOP-IC2 Jumpers
To configure NOP-IC2 jumpers:
- Power down the controller.
- Identify the jumper to be configured.
Verify the wiring layout and confirm whether the port is located at the end of the RS-485 bus.
- Place the jumper in the required position.
- Confirm the jumper is fully seated.
- Restore power to the controller.
- Verify controller, reader, and downstream communication status.
If communication issues occur, confirm that termination is only enabled at the correct end points of the RS-485 chain.
Enable the termination jumper when:
The controller port is at the physical end of the RS-485 bus.
No additional downstream RS-485 devices continue past that point.
Leave the termination jumper OFF when:
The device is in the middle of the RS-485 chain.
Additional devices continue downstream from the same bus.IMPORTANT: Enabling termination on too many devices can cause RS-485
communication issues. Termination should generally be applied only at
the two physical ends of the RS-485 bus.
