Summary

Hanwha's patented Flex Inputs feature is a unique input expansion capability available on NHP controllers when using OSDP protocols. Flex Inputs is a Hanwha-exclusive feature that allows you to repurpose reader-side LED and BUZ output terminals into general-purpose unsupervised inputs when the reader is operating in OSDP mode.

Instead of just controlling the LED or buzzer output associated with Wiegand readers, these terminals can be used as additional inputs when using OSDP reader, making maximum use of the controller hardware and not requiring additional input boards. 

This article explains how Flex Inputs works and how to take advantage of this powerful feature.

Flex Inputs Uses

Flex Inputs enables two extra inputs per reader port. These can be used for:

• Monitoring cabinet or wall tamper switches
• Tracking button presses or mechanical triggers
• Triggering zone events from a remote input location
• Monitoring auxiliary sensors at the door

Flex Inputs by Reader Port

When in OSDP mode, wire the Flex Inputs as follows:

• F1/BUZ - Flex Input 1 (Active High) 
• F2/LED - Flex Input 2 (Active High) 
• Ground - RD GND or any available ground from the NHP panel

NOTE: Flex I/O inputs are unsupervised and do not support 
end-of-line (EOL) resistor monitoring.

For a tamper switch wired to Reader 1, connect one tamper contact (NO) lead to F1 (BUZ) and the other lead to RD GND. The input is active depending on the configured input type (NO/NC).

IMPORTANT: Use a minimum 22/2 or 22/4 cable when wiring Flex I/O devices. 

Enabling Flex Input

To enable Flex Input:

1. Set the reader port to OSDP mode by selecting Devices > Controllers > Interfaces > Readers.

2. Ensure the reader is wired correctly using the four reader wires associated with OSDP. 
    
3. Confirm that the appropriate inputs are wired to the F(x) pins. 
    
4. Configure the Flex Inputs under the Controller Interface setup in OnCAFE.

   Once OSDP is enabled on the selected reader port, Flex Inputs appear as additional available inputs in the Input Management section.
