Summary
This article explains your BLAZE licensing options and how many BLAZE licenses are needed.
BLAZE Appliances
BLAZE appliances come pre-licensed with permanent, perpetual recording licenses. For example, a 16-channel BLAZE appliance is pre-loaded with 16 licenses out of the box, enabling it to record 16 channels. You cannot remove, change, or transfer appliance licenses.
Appliances are channel-bound. For example, a quad sensor camera counts as 4 channels, not 1. An ONVIF camera counts as 1, not 0.25. This is an important distinction between pre-licensed appliances and servers that require licensing.
Premium BLAZE Licenses
Licensing is required to record on a BLAZE server or interact with other entities like audio devices. A BLZ-PRM-01 BLAZE license is a perpetual recording license, allowing indefinite recording. With a Premium license, you get 3 years of support and free software updates. After 3 years, you need a Software Update Plan (SUP) license to upgrade your software. The SUP license extends the update eligibility period by another 3 years.
When ordering Premium licenses:
- Order a License Key per system (typically a site)
- Specify the channel count (Quantity) for that system
- Most devices use one license, but some need only a fraction. If you miss this distinction, you might order more than you need.
Example for a customer with two sites, one with 30 and the other with 50 Hanwha cameras:
| Correct | BLZ-PRM-01, Qty 30 BLZ-PRM-01, Qty 50 This 2-line order will generate 2 license keys, each with the right number of licenses. |
| Incorrect | BLZ-PRM-01, Qty 80 This single-line order will generate one license key for 80 cameras, which can only be used at one site. |
License Requirements by Device Type
Some devices only use part of a license.
| One License Serves… | Licenses used per Connected Channel |
| 1 license for all Hanwha IP cameras. This includes multi-sensors, panoramic, PTZ, and bi-spectrum models (regardless of the number of channels) | 1 Hanwha IP camera uses one license |
| 1 license for every 8 NVR channels | 1 NVR camera only uses 0.125 licenses |
| 1 license for every 4 channels on encoders | 1 analog camera on an encoder only uses 0.25 licenses |
| 1 license for every 4 ONVIF multi-channel devices | 1 ONVIF multi-channel device only uses 0.25 licenses |
| 1 license for every 4 IP audio devices | 1 IP audio device only uses 0.25 licenses |
Examples:
- A Hanwha PNM-9085RQZ1 multi-directional PTRZ with four cameras inside uses 1 BLAZE license, not 4.
- A Hanwha XRN NVR 64-channel NVR with 48 cameras attached uses 6 licenses, not 8, 48, or 64.
- A Hanwha SPE-1630 16 channel encoder with 12 cameras attached uses 3 licenses, not 4, 12, or 16.
- A 5-lens panormic ONVIF device uses 1.25 licenses, not 5.
- Two Hanwha SPA-D1000 IP audio modules uses 0.5 licenses, not 2.
