Applies to: BLAZE
Summary
This article describes how to add an RTSP stream to BLAZE using an RTSP stream when the device cannot be added using a native API or ONVIF.
Prerequisites
Before adding a device, you must first obtain the RTSP stream URL.
To determine the RTSP stream URL using ODM:
- Download, install, and launch ODM.
The format of the RTSP stream URL varies, so it is recommended to refer to the camera manufacturer’s documentation, or use a tool such as ONVIF Device Manager (ODM) available from https://sourceforge.net/projects/onvifdm.
- Log in using your camera’s credentials.
Some devices require a separate ONVIF user profile. If one exists, use those credentials.
- Select the device.
- If necessary, delete unused profiles to make space for new ones.
This is a common issue when adding devices to BLAZE, as it is required to to create 2 new profiles.
- Select Profiles.
- Create a new profile or select an existing profile to use as the high-resolution profile.
- Expand Video Encoder Configuration to confirm details (including CODEC), resolution, and framerate.
- Click Select.
- Click Live video and copy the RTSP URL at the bottom of the screen.
- Open VLC Media Player.
- Navigate to Media > Open Network Stream.
-
Enter the RTSP stream and the ONVIF credentials.
If a lower-resolution secondary stream is required, repeat the process to obtain its RTSP URL.NOTE: The maximum secondary stream resolution is 1024 x 768 to
avoid affecting server-side motion detection.
Adding a Device Using an RTSP Stream
To add a device using an RSTP stream:
- Log in to BLAZE Desktop Client as an Administrator.
- Navigate to Settings > Devices.
- Click Add device.
If the system contains multiple servers, select the server to add the stream to.
- Click Stream URL.
- Enter the RTSP Stream URL for the primary high-resolution stream and provide the camera credentials.
You may need to adjust authentication or encryption options in the device.
- Select and add the camera stream.
-
To enable recording, toggle Use license to On.
NOTE: A license is not required to view a live stream in BLAZE.
One license is required to record both a high-resolution and
low-resolution stream. -
(Optional) Enter the lower-bandwidth secondary stream URL to enable event-based recording and usage when resources are limited.
- (Optional) To rename the device RTSP stream, right-click the stream and select Rename.
You can now view and replay both the primary and secondary streams.
IMPORTANT: RTSP stream URLs vary by manufacturer, model, profile type,
and stream resolution. Consult the manufacturer's documentation for
the correct URLs.
