Summary
Auto License Selection automatically assigns the appropriate camera licenses to each WAVE or BLAZE appliance based on the number of cameras in your project. This eliminates the need to manually calculate and select license quantities for each appliance. This article explains how to use auto licenses.
NOTE: The Auto License button is only active when at least one camera has been added
in the Devices menu and at least one WAVE or BLAZE appliance has been added in the Recorders menu.
NOTE: BLAZE models with licenses pre-installed on all channels do not require
additional license assignment. The Auto License button is disabled for these models.
Assigning Licenses Automatically
Auto License can be run in two ways — across all appliances at once, or for a single appliance.
To run all appliances at once:
- Navigate to the Recorders menu and open the license section.
- Click Auto Licenses.
- When the confirmation popup appears, click OK.
Licenses are assigned to each appliance. You can review the result on each appliance's license page or in Project Requirements.
- Click on the License option under the Recorder in product bucket.
The license menu for the specific recorder displays.
Assigning a License to a Single Appliance
To assign a license to a single appliance:
- Navigate to the individual appliance's license page in the Recorders menu.
The License page for the specific recorder opens.
- Click Auto Licenses on that page.
- Click OK on the pop-up selection.
Licenses are assigned to that appliance only, up to the number of cameras remaining or the appliance's channel capacity — whichever is smaller.
Assigning Licenses Manually
After Auto License runs, you can still add or remove licenses manually on each appliance's license page. However, if you run Auto License again at any point, all manual changes are discarded and licenses are fully recalculated from scratch.
To add licenses manually to an individual recorder:
- Navigate to the Recorders tab.
- Click on the individual recorder in the device bucket on the right.
- Click the + to add a single license or the – to subtract a single license.
To add licenses to the project without specifying a recorder:
- Click on the Recorders tab.
Click on the + to add the license directly from the whole project.
The license appears in the product bucket.IMPORTANT: Running Auto Licenses always clears all previously selected licenses both manually set and previously auto-assigned before recalculating. Run Auto License before making final manual adjustments.
After Running Auto License
Check the following items after running auto license.
- Not enough appliance capacity for all cameras.
If the total channel capacity of all appliances is less than the number of cameras, licenses are assigned up to the maximum capacity of each appliance. The shortfall is flagged in Project Requirements — check there to confirm all cameras are covered.
- Appliances added or removed after Auto License.
If you add or remove appliances after running Auto License, the license count adjusts for the changed appliance only. The assignment across remaining appliances is not rebalanced. Run Auto Licenses again to optimize the distribution across all appliances.
