Summary
In DesignPro, devices can be added directly from the Map tab without switching to the Devices tab. When you add a device from the map, it is automatically synced to the Devices tab as well.
There are three ways to add a camera from the Map tab. This article describes how to add a camera from the Map tab.
Opening the Add New Device Panel
NOTE: The Add new device button is always visible at the top of the device bucket in
the Map tab. Clicking it opens a panel to select a product category first, then
choose how to add the device.
NOTE: Only device categories are available here (Network camera, Analog camera, Encoder, Decoder, IP Audio, Switch, ACS, Peripheral). Recorders cannot be added from
the Map tab. Available categories may vary by region.
Option 1: Select model
Use this option when you already know the model you want to place on the map. To select a specific model:
- Log in to DesignPro.
- Click Add new device and select a product category.
- Choose Select model, then filter by product type (e.g., Dome, Bullet).
Search for a model by name or keyword. Results update in real time.
NOTE: Discontinued models are excluded from search results. The model is added to the Map device bucket.
Drag the icon onto the map to place it. A default field of vision (FoV) beam appears on placement.
Once added to the Map bucket, you can set the following inline:
- Color — icon border color on the map
- Nickname — defaults to the model name; editable
- Quantity
- Profile
- FoV, Accessory (cameras only)
- To display the camera drawer properties click on the device icon on the map. The menu will display available channels for the device with a check box for hallway view. Other properties include Focal length, Target distance, installation height, tilt angle, and camera rotation.
Option 2: Select Model Later
Use this when you want to finalize the map layout before committing to a specific model. To add a placeholder first:
- Click Add new device and select a product category.
Choose Select model later and click OK.
A dummy device is added to the Map bucket.
- Drag it onto the map to place it.
- When ready, replace it with a real model using Change model (see Managing a device from the map article.
It is shown with a placeholder icon in the bucket — visually distinct from real models on the map as well.
It is not synced to the Devices tab and does not appear in Project Requirements, Reports, or the Dashboard.
You can set a Nickname, Quantity, camera type (Normal / Panoramic / Fisheye), and FoV on the map, but these are provisional until a real model is assigned.
NOTE: Changing the camera type (Normal / Panoramic / Fisheye) in the Drawer applies
to all devices in the same bucket group at once.
IMPORTANT: Dummy devices are excluded from all project calculations. Replace all
dummy devices with real models before generating Reports or reviewing Project
Requirements.
Option 3: Add Generic Camera
Use this when you need to include a non-Hanwha camera in your map design.
This represents a generic third party camera. To add a generic camera:
- Click Add new device and select Camera (Network/Analog) as the category.
- Choose Generic camera and click OK.
The generic camera is added to a separate Generic bucket in the Map tab.
Drag it onto the map to place it. Generic cameras have the following constraints:
The icon color is fixed as grey and cannot be changed. They are not synced to the Devices tab and do not appear in Project Requirements, Reports, or the Dashboard.
DORI analysis is not supported.
Only Camera (Network/Analog) supports Generic camera — other categories do not offer this option.
IMPORTANT: Like dummy devices, generic cameras are excluded from all project calculations until replaced with a real Hanwha Vision model.
