Applies to: NHP IP-Based Controllers
Summary
Proper IP and time configuration ensures successful communications with OnCAFE. This article explains how to identify the NHP Controller’s IP address, log into the device, and configure its network settings.
Identifying the NHP IP Address
Upon startup, the NHP Controller attempts to obtain an IP address via DHCP. If successful, the device automatically appears on the network.
To identify an IP Address:
Use a network scanning tool such as Wisenet Device Manager, or any trusted IP scanner.
NOTE: Wisenet Device Manager provides the quickest way to locate the NHP IP address on DHCP-enabled networks.- Check MAC address printed on the product label.
- If no DHCP server is present, the controller defaults to:
| Parameter | Value |
| IP Address | 192.168.1.100 |
| Subnet Mask | 255.255.255.0 |
| Default Gateway | 192.168.1.1 |
To access the controller in this mode, configure your workstation on the same subnet (e.g., 192.168.1.50 / 255.255.255.0).
Logging into the NHP Controller
To log in to the NHP controller:
- Launch a web browser and enter the controller’s IP address.
You are prompted to create a new password.
- Create the new password per the guidelines listed, then click Apply.
- Refresh the page, and log in as an admin with updated credentials.
Configuring Date and Time
To ensure proper log timestamps and scheduled functions, configure the date and time. To configure the date and time:
- Select Basic > Date & Time.
- Enter/confirm the data in the following:
o Time Zone: Match your local time (e.g., GMT–05:00 Eastern Time US & Canada)
o Enable Daylight Saving Time (DST)
o System Time Options: Manual Time Entry, Sync with PC Viewer, Sync with NTP Server
Configuring IP Address and Ports
To enable Cloud communication with the OnCAFE platform:
- Confirm that the controller has a valid static or dynamic IP.
Confirm that the controller has outbound access to ports 80 (HTTP) and 443 (HTTPS).
NOTE: No other port forwarding is required.
If your network does not support DHCP:
- Assign a static IP that is routable and internet-connected.
- Confirm that firewall policies allow outbound HTTP/HTTPS traffic.
- Select Basic > IP & Port.
- In the IP Type drop-down, select Manual.
- Enter the following fields:
o IP Address: Match your network range
o Subnet Mask
o Default Gateway: Typically your router address
o DNS 1 / DNS 2: Public or internal DNS (e.g., 8.8.8.8, 192.168.1.1)
o Host Name: Optional
o MTU: Leave at default (1500)
o ICMP: Keep enabled for ping/troubleshooting
Click Apply.
NOTE: Allow the controller to reboot, if prompted.
