Yes, you can turn off the monitor screen and still hear sound from the baby unit as the BabyView monitor supports Audio/VOX mode as well as Video mode.
In Audio mode, you can hear sound from the baby unit while the screen is off.
In VOX mode, the screen will automatically turn on only when the baby unit detects sound the above the dB setting value.

Yes, you can also adjust the volume in the monitor settings.
However, when the monitor is connected to multiple cameras, it does not provide sound in multi-view mode. (Sound is available in Sequence mode)
