Summary
The Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) is a hardware and software solution that allows IT administrators to securely manage Dell PowerEdge servers both remotely and locally. iDRAC is built into the server's baseboard management controller (BMC) and does not require additional software installation. This article provides instructions for accessing the iDRAC GUI and collecting system logs.
Accessing the iDRAC Controller
To access the iDRAC controller in Windows:
- Go to the Dell site and download the Windows application.
- Run the self-extracting zip file.
- Navigate to the directory where the files have been unzipped.
- Click iDRACSvcMod to install.
- After reading the EULA, click Next to complete the installation.
- Click the Windows Start button.
- Select iDRAC GUI Launcher.
The prompt may not immediately open the iDRAC access screen.

Enter the credentials. The default credentials are:
Username: root
Password: calvin
The default user information is normally found on a pullout tab on the front of the server.
Once logged in, the main menu of the OpenManage interface displays the overall health of the server, including the model number and serial number.
Collecting System Logs
To collect system logs:
- Click the System tab.
- Navigate to Maintenance > System Event Log > Troubleshooting
- From the system event log screen, download the logs.
- Send the collected logs to our support group.
