1. NEMA/IP ratings are standards for protecting equipment from water, dust, chemicals, etc.
- NEMA rating is not a global standards yet commonly used in North America region
- IP rating is more likely used as an international standard
2. Both are protection ratings, but the measurements are different
- Since NEMA considers a wide range of environmental conditions, such as oil and ice, it is particularly
suitable if an enclosure is required to describe various conditions including humidity and mechanical
damage
- The NEMA rating also measures corrosion or exposure to chemicals (Advantage of NEMA rating)
- The IP rating mainly measures the degree of inflow of particles (such as dust) and liquids, thus it only
needs to meet the appropriate protection regulations
3. Unlike IP rating, the higher NEMA rating does not necessarily mean more advanced device
- Because there are specific requirements for each rating, it is most important to meet the specific
requirements
