Introduction
Mean time between failures (MTBF) is the predicted elapsed time between inherent failures of a mechanical or electronic system during normal system operation.
Example
If there are 100 cameras operating in the site; estimate the number of units that will fail after 10,000 hours is estimated and determine the number of cameras that need to be refurbished.
This is calculated as 100 units × 10,000 hours = 1,000,000 hours*units.
The predicted number of failures is 1,000,000 ÷ 100,000 = 10 units, if the MTBF is 100,000 hours. So 10 cameras should be prepared to replace the failed ones.
