For older models of NVRs, see How to set up motion detection recording on older NVRs.
Setting Up Motion Detection
To enable motion detection:
- Navigate to Setup > Event > Event setup > Motion detection.
-
Select the camera, then check the Enable box.
IMPORTANT: You must set the motion detection area, sensitivity, and object size using the Camera setup page.
- Navigate to Event rule setup.
- Click Add and select Create rule.
- In the box that appears, click the Add trigger box and select Motion detection.
- Click Apply to add the motion detection rule to the Event rule setup list.
- Navigate to Record > Record schedule.
-
Select the camera from the drop-down menu and choose either the Event or Continuous/Event recording schedule.
This sets the camera to record when motion is detected, indicated on the camera timeline by red bars.
- To confirm the camera timeline, select Search in the center top menu, then select the camera and date from the left-side menu.
Checking for Motion Detection
If the camera does not record events, you can check if motion detection events are occurring by looking at the camera logs or NVR logs.
Checking Camera Logs
To access camera logs:
- Log into the camera using your browser (Chrome preferred).
- Click the Gear icon in the center top.
-
Navigate to System > Log > Event log.
The Event log shows when event recordings start and end, if any are detected.
Checking NVR Logs
To access NVR logs:
- Log in to the NVR.
- Navigate to Setup > System > Event log.
The Event log shows when events occur, if any are detected.
If motion detection events are not being detected, you may need to adjust the motion detection area, object size, or sensitivity in the Camera setup page.
